My Approach
Growing up in a very loud, small house with a large, chaotic and loving family, I know what calm "is," because I know what it "is not." I sense pain intuitively and I value helping friends and family feel calm and heard. I embody a sense of calm and caretaking to fall into in those moments needing strength. Creating this calm is a beautiful alchemy, sometimes science and sometimes just intuitive, like with music. I believe music fuels movement and movement fuels healing (I am vocalist, so singing is my calm, but I also share that with others by playlisting ahead of yoga classes). We're not going to sing together (unless you want to, and although the structure of the vocal box mimics the structure of the vagina - it's true, not woo); but I WILL combine body science with evidence-based tools to help you find your centered, strongest place. Trust that I know and am trained in doing what I do, so that you can do what you need to do. And often that includes supporting you in the freedom to move as you need to, helping to educate and answer questions until they make sense, finding ways to say what you're feeling in a clinical setting, and seeking solutions together.
I often find myself noticing how people carry stress in their bodies physically and rattling off ideas for a more relaxed body in my head. During labor, I believe in the powerful role that music/voice, touch, education (so saying where we're going next, what your next decision would be, or where we are in class structure), and movement play in the emotional, physical, and spiritual journey that is birth and healing after. In my classes and as a doula, I like to incorporate music and lighting to create sensory environments that feel like a place to get out of your head and tune in to your body and remember your centered calm.
